Biotechnology Career Programs

Open to Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) high school juniors and seniors, these programs offer hands-on training and real-world experiences to students interested in pursuing a biotechnology career.

Following successful completion, opportunities include pursuing and acquiring a full-time apprenticeship after high school graduation which will pay for an associate degree at FCC and may lead to fully paid job opportunities in the industry.

An earn and learn industry-driven model aligned with high quality career fields, the apprenticeship program allows employers to develop and prepare their future workforce through paid work experiences combined with classroom instruction. Participating companies include Kite, Lonza, Texcell and VaLogic.

 

Spring 2024 Biotechnology Internship ProgramFCPS Juniors & SeniorsFREE
Monday through Friday • 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. • January 20 to May 10, 2024
The Biotechnology Internship Program is an internship package that includes three dual enrollment classes offered through FCPS whereby FCPS high school juniors and seniors are eligible to participate. Earning high school and college credits while receiving valuable hands-on career training and experience in the field of biotechnology, participating students will
  • Attend their home high school in the morning and participate in the internship program at Frederick Community College in the afternoon for 15 hours per week. Students will need to arrange personal transportation.
  • Be supervised by an identified FCC partner in collaboration with an identified contact in the FCPS school system. 
  • Earn 6 college credits. Program is offered as three 5-week dual enrollment classes: BIOT 101 - Biotechnology and Society (3 credits), BIOT 103 - Basic Lab Techniques (1 credit), and INTR 102 - Internship (2 credits).
  • Earn 2 high school credits and industry recognized credential for participating in this program that counts toward high school attendance and graduation.
  • Develop work-based learning experience leading to high-wage, high-skill, in-demand careers in the biotech industry.  
 
Dual Enrollment • FCPS Juniors & Seniors

Earn your high school diploma and college credits simultaneously. 
Get a head start on your college education through the Dual Enrollment program. FCPS students can start taking classes at FCC towards earning a biotechnology degree while in high school. Frederick County Public School students may receive free tuition through Dual Enrollment at FCC for all courses.

 
Summer 2024 Biotechnology ProgramFCPS Graduating Class of 2024FREE

FCPS students graduating in spring 2024 are invited to participate in this all-new program delivering an introduction to the local biotech industry. In addition to exploring the world of biotechnology at Frederick Community College, the program includes opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials and utilize program support to gain an entry-level position in the local workforce. 

 
Biological Technician Apprenticeship • Incoming FCC Freshmen
Receive on-the-job training while earning income and a degree
In this program, you can earn a Biotechnology A.A.S. degree while receiving on-the-job training in the local biotech industry. As an apprentice, you can earn income while your employer pays for your education.

TEM Scholars • Incoming FCC Freshmen

Scholarship program offering up to $13,000 in financial aid
STEM Scholars is available to incoming freshmen pursuing a STEM degree, such as biotechnology, and offers financial aid as well as a training and mentorship program
